The project entails the provision of a new build replacement school for disabled children and children with special educational needs on the existing live and operational site of Rossmar School, 2 Ballyquin Road, Limavady.
The provision of educational facilities for a new 19 Class base school providing nursery, primary, post primary and post 16, school meals accommodation, multi-purpose hall, changing rooms, administration area, associated support rooms and toilets, ancillary accommodation, external stores and greenhouse facilities including alterations, adaptations and extension to existing drainage and site works.
The project has been designed with a complex phasing strategy to allow the existing school buildings for children with disabilities and special needs and the Youth Centre (located on site) to remain live and fully operational during the construction period. The project has been designed to allow the existing school buildings to remain fully operational during the construction period. It is anticipated that there will be four main phases within the 22 month construction period as follows:-
- Phase 1 – Provision of 3nr classroom base prefabricated modular unit including removal of existing 3nr classroom base prefabricated modular unit; sewer diversion
- Phase 2 – Create temporary Contractor’s entrance; site set up; establish site boundaries; divert existing services; construction of new school building; construction of access road and bus facilities and playgrounds.
- Phase 3 – Existing School decanted into new accommodation
- Phase 4 – Demolitions of existing buildings and completion of site works in this area – grass pitch, staff and visitor’s car parking
Project Works Description:
Generally
Rossmar School will provide 19 classrooms, school meals and associated ancillary accommodation in a single storey building (4586m2) of load-bearing masonry with a timber trussed roof construction with a slate type pitched roof. Externally the buildings will be finished in clay facing brick with rendered sections of blockwork. Fenestration comprises aluminium window and rooflights.
External areas shall include a grass playing pitch, hard and soft play areas, hard and soft landscaping, car parking facilities, security fencing, new walling and railings and protection of existing trees.
The project is registered with Considerate Constructors Scheme.
